Recommended Roses For the Sacramento Area - Expanded List

The following is a list of roses that appear to do very well in the Sacramento Valley area. The Sacramento area has mild winters and hot dry summers and beautiful weather to grow roses from April through December. The roses in this list were selected because of their ease of growth, flower production, repeat bloom, and overall good performance for the Sacramento Valley climate. The roses were also selected for disease resistance to fungal diseases like powdery mildew, rust, and blackspot. If they are planted in a manner that air flow within the roses is maximized, the need for pesticide application for control of powdery mildew, rust, and blackspot can be kept to a minimum. Many of these roses can be obtained through my favorite local rose nurseries but a few are only available through mail order nurseries. These roses are listed by type of rose and within the type of rose (e.g., Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Floribunda, Polyantha, Climbers, Shrubs, Old Garden Roses, and Miniatures). The Climbing Rose Section contains some roses that can be grown as climbers. These roses may not be classified as climbers by available publications. Within each grouping of roses, the rose varieties are listed alphabetically and I listed the class in some cases as well as the color class where known. I also tried to include the latest national rating from the various American Rose Society publications and Roses-In-Review Surveys that appear in the ARS rose annuals. The ARS rates the roses according to the following classes:

10.0 = Perfect
9.0-9.9=Outstanding
8.0-8.9=Excellent
7.0-7.9=Good
6.0-6.9= Fair

I included a "n/a" for new roses where no rating is available. With very few exceptions all roses listed here are rated 7.0 or higher.
